Goal

Background
Alteryx is a company that provides a suite of products, including their newest offering called Alteryx Analytics Cloud. They are generally known for it’s on prem products but knew they needed to transition. Their recent acquisition of Trifacta set them on a path to do just that.
My Role
My part of the admin project aimed to support users and workspaces within the Alteryx ecosystem.
The suite of products was continually growing, and managing all of that complexity was becoming untenable for both employees and customers.
Research
A tale of two types
The admin project was initiated due to the need for efficient user management on the workspace level. Working with product management, I helped define the personas and user stories, and identified two main user types: Workspace Admin & Account Admin.
The admin project focused on developing an admin console within Alteryx Analytics Cloud.
Jobs to be Done
We also defined the jobs they needed to do including capabilities to invite, disable, and remove users effectively.
Roles
The console allowed admins to manage users on the workspace level, including inviting, disabling, and removing users.
The project also introduced the ability to edit user roles and assign them within the Alteryx ecosystem.
Implementation
The implementation of the admin project involved close collaboration with architects and the development team.
The project aimed to bring user management closer to the users, ensuring a seamless experience.
What I learned
Complex problems need to be broken down into the smallest pieces possible in order to design the best solution.
Agile kanban is often not as effective as agile scrum, especially when teams tend to be split across unrelated projects.
Defining roles has an enormous impact in the success of a product.
